PENSIONER vs SECURITY

Saturday 16 May 2026, Westgate Mall, Mitchells Plain @ 12:20...I parked my motorcycle in the usual place outside the Shoprite entrance. I returned at 13:10 to discover my bike has been clamped by the Security Guard, who by the way could hardly speak English. Anyway, he escorts me to the Security Office where I speak to a Supervisor. After a debate, whereby I told him that I am a pensioner and that was my means of transport. He Insisted that I pay the fine of R300.00 before releasing the bike. Then he states that I should return at 18:00 and they will release the bike without prejudice. I explained to him that should I park in a parking bay, I am told I am taking up space that a motor vehicle could park. I am then directed to the pavement out of the public walkway and told that is where I should park in future. This is what I have been doing all the years without a problem. There are no signs stating that you cannot park in these zones. So it is AUTHORITIASM going beyond the rules and regulations and their duties by making up rules to suit themselves. I have been parking in the same zones for 11 years without incident and today the Security Guards decide to change the rules to suit themselves and to show the Public their AUTHORITY. At no stage did they ask me for my details, nothing. I came to one conclusion, these are DEI employees and have no clue of rules and regulations. If the **** should go down at the Mall, they would run out the back door. I feel what happened today is unacceptable as there are a few motorcyclist that park in the same zones I use and never ever have they been clamped. I then proceeded to the Taxi Rank and took the Taxi home. I was dropped of and had a long distance to walk carrying heavy parcels with impaired mobility after an operation on my left leg. This will be taken up with Mall Management for their attention. See less
