Wesbank's lack of responsibility

I purchased a vehicle financed through Wesbank and have been dealing with a nightmare that has now been ongoing for close to a month with absolutely no resolution.

The vehicle was defective from the day after I collected it. I have documented 10 separate defects including a faulty handbrake, oil leaks, short circuiting lights, a critical electrical fault that was dismissed by the dealer, battery failure, broken door catch caused by the dealer during their own repair, faulty speedometer, loud diesel pump, over fueling, and alternator and aircon belts snapping. The aircon belt has still not been replaced after close to a month.

I reported all of these defects to the dealer within the 6 month period under the Consumer Protection Act. I have WhatsApp messages and a voice note dated 21 February 2026 as proof. Every single repair attempt by the dealer has failed. The dealer then had the audacity to claim the matter falls outside the 6 month CPA period — a period that only lapsed because of their own failure to resolve the issues.

I escalated to Wesbank as the financing institution and legal owner of the vehicle expecting them to take direct responsibility. Instead Wesbank has spent close to 2 month acting as a passive intermediary going back and forth with the dealer while I continue to suffer. I have submitted full evidence to Wesbank including photographs, WhatsApp messages and voice notes. Wesbank has even formally acknowledged in writing that my evidence shows concerns were raised within the 6 month period. Yet they continue to state that cancellation cannot be enforced and that I must continue paying.

This vehicle is used for my business. I am losing clients, customers and income every single day. I am funding vehicle instalments and compulsory insurance premiums from my own pocket on a vehicle I cannot safely use. When I raised the possibility of withholding payments Wesbank told me I have a legal obligation to pay despite the circumstances. Yet Wesbank continues to do nothing to enforce the dealer's obligations.

I have now filed simultaneous formal complaints with: - Motor Industry Ombudsman of South Africa (MIOSA) - National Credit Regulator - Ombudsman for Banking Services - National Consumer Commission

Wesbank — your customer is suffering real financial harm every single day. You have acknowledged my evidence in writing. There is no justification for continued delay. Absolutely terrible experience
