Wesbank does not assist in time of need

I have a wesbank account of which I only have +-1 year to pay. My wife lost her job at the end of last year, putting us in financial difficulties which resulted in the car not being paid as usual. I called and emailed wesbank to assist with reducing my installments until we are able to pay the full installment again. We received response which took wesbank months to respond to. They advised that we needed to reapply for the finance, of which we could not do as my credit is not up to standard due to the financial difficulties. We responded to wesbank and they came back providing us with the collection agency's nr to contact. Spoke to the collection agency and now the account is handed over to the field agent to collect the car. Wesbank is not willing to help their clients when in need, but was very quick to give the car loan even though I had a judgement against my name. I would like to know who the person is that I can speak to at wesbank that deals with ombudsmans queries, as I need to prove to the ombudsman that I liaised with wesbank first. Please contact my wife urgently as I am not able to take calls.

Hello Witts end,

Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention and allowing us to respond to you formally.

There is a history of default on the account which predates your spouse's loss of employment and in keeping with the National Credit Act (NCA), the Bank is required to prove irrefutably the soundness of credit lending even if same is with the aim of restructuring an existing Agreement. With this in mind, a last resort which allows for that which you desire is to undergo the Debt Review process because this affords consumers reprieve from their creditors whilst due diligence is observed. We suggest that you contact an independent Debt Counsellor for this purpose; failing which you may quote the reference CRS1EDB to the ombudsman as confirmation of the Bank's final position herein.

We trust that this is in order and assure you of our best intentions at all times.

Yours sincerely,

WesBank
