Vehicle logbook nowhere to be found
My father financed a vehicle with Wesbank back in December 2000. When the vehicle was paid off a few years later, he requested the logbook. His repeated request went unanswered. Over the years, the matter was forgotten. Today, my father remains the registered owner of the vehicle, but I am the current driver/owner of it. I requested the logbook to be sent to my father on his behalf. All I got was a stock-standard reply that Wesbank cannot trace an account number or any documents for the vehicle description provided, and that we are required to contact the license department to request a print out reflecting WesBank is still the title holder. Only once we receive the document and WesBank is still the title holder, can they assist in obtaining a duplicate document (at OUR expense!). We contacted the license department telephonically, and they confirmed that Wesbank is still the title holder. When we let Wesbank know, they rep**** with the same stock-standard answer that they cannot trace an account no. or any documents for the vehicle description provided, and that we must provide Wesbank with proof of payment in order to obtain a duplicate natis. Why is the onus on the customer?!
Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention and after investigating your concerns, we wish to respond as follows:
We have received confirmation from the traffic authorities on your behalf that the vehicle is indeed registered and even though your father's historic profile does exist, there isn't an account attributable to the vehicle in question. Our Motor and Corporate departments also confirmed that we do not have an existing record of this vehicle. The Bank will only accept liability and incur the costs associated to the request of a duplicate Natis once reasonable doubt is eliminated. To this end, we have merely requested that you provide an account number for audit purposes. It is only when this is not available these costs revert to the consumer, particularly in the case of accounts that are more than 10 years old because we cannot be certain that the documents weren't forwarded on previous occasion. Further details in this regard have been sent under separate cover.
We trust that this is in order and assure you of our best intentions.
Yours faithfully,
WesBank
