Unhappy customer

I settled my vehicle finance account with WesBank using a settlement quotation issued on 09 April 2026. The quotation clearly stated that it was valid until 16 April 2026.

My normal monthly instalment was deducted on 15 April 2026, which was still within the validity period of the settlement quotation. The quotation also stated that where an instalment falls due within 7 calendar days, the debit order would be refunded provided the account was not short settled.

After making payment, I checked whether my account had updated and the system generated another settlement quotation with a higher amount. I was never warned that merely requesting another quotation to check the account status would automatically replace the original valid quotation.

WesBank then app**** the higher quotation instead of the original valid quotation and retained part of my instalment on the basis that the account had been “short settled”.

I fully understand that systems and processes exist, however my concern is about fairness and transparency. The original settlement quotation was still valid at the time payment was made, and I acted in good faith throughout the process.

I raised the matter directly with WesBank but they declined to refund the retained portion of my instalment despite the original settlement quotation still being valid at the time payment was made.

Why does their system generate a new quote while there is still a valid ? It should have shown the one that was still valid.
