I'm reporting this to the Ombudsman

My wife accidentally removed funds from her account and her Wesbank account payment did not go off on the 1st of June 2015.

We received a statement on 16 June 2015 stating that the account is in arrears. I immediately paid the account in full and up to date, and phoned Wesbank who told me to send the proof to their email which i did.

Today on the 19th a Collections company phoned and told us the account is in arrears. She stated that they have levied a 10% collections fee on the account which comes down to R300+ just for the one call! What the heck is this?

I phoned Wesbank and spoke to Mpho Motene who was trying to be polite, did not resolve my problem at all. Just kept on repeating that i will be liable for this amount and nothing she can do.

This is ridiculous. The account has been paid, and only levied cost after. Also Wesbank cannot charge their collection fee to their clients when there is no arrears. I've just paid up my other Wesbank account and looking for a new vehicle. Wesbank will not finance this vehicle. Wesbank needs to correct this immediately or i will be going to the Banking Ombudsman to dispute this nonsense.

Hello gjg100,

Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention and let us use this opportunity to apologise for the service failure observed. As a service driven organisation, WesBank goes to great lengths to render unsurpassed service excellence to all our valued customers with every interaction.

Your promised payment has yet to be credited to the WesBank account and therefore prompted Collections Solutions, a collection agency acting on behalf of WesBank, to follow up on the outstanding funds. No penalties have been debited thus far to the account however penalties are applicable in line with the finance agreement as well as the Debt Collectors Act (DCA) whenever payment is not immediately recovered. Kindly ensure that correct banking details were used for the transaction and respond to the correspondence that has been forwarded.

We trust that this is in order and assure you of our best intentions at all times.

Yours sincerely,

WesBank
