Failure to close account after settlement amount paid by insurance company
On the 03-04-2023 I was in an accident and my car was subsequently written off. On 10-05-2023 my insurance company paid Wesbank the settlement amount as agreed upon.
On 28-05-2023 I received a statement from Wesbank which indicates that I had a positive balance on my account in the amount of R8,497.75 due to me on 10-05-2023, however I have still been charged escalation and interest on 26-05-2023 and it states that my account will still be debited with the monthly instalment.
I am very confused as I thought my debt had been settled by the insurance company, so surely my account with Wesbank should have been closed and a paid up letter issued on 10-05-2023 after my insurance company paid the settlement amount.
Why am I still being charged interest etc after this date if it shows a positive balance due to me in the amount of R8,497.75 on 10/05/2023? All charges from this date onwards are invalid and should be reversed.
Please can someone from Wesbank help? I am so worried that this instalment will go off my account again as soon as I have more than the instalment amount in my account. Thank you.
