Don’t waste your time with Wesbank graduate program- especially if you’re a BA degree holder
Dont waste your time applying fir the Wes bank graduate finance program unless you’ve already been working. I app**** for the graduate finance program with Wes bank and discovered that it’s actually not what they make it seem to be. Firstly, getting to a place where I could even apply for the service was a mission and it was next to impossible to get a human correspondent because the application on the site doesn’t work it’ll tell you that you need to have a credit record. That’s the first red flag.
Here’s a bit of a back story. So because of covid I decided to start my own online business to make some extra cash because my year didn’t go as planned. Then in October I was able to get a weekend job to help me out. Then I was lucky to find a job with an event planing company where using my anthropology skills and Chinese skills that I learned while studying my BA degree to good use. As if that wasn’t already a plus it’s a job that would only require me to sometimes go to the office because we could work online which was great because it meant I can still push my own business during the week while working. One of the requirements for the job though is to be mobile. The Wes bank graduate program claims that if you manage to get a job offer have signed the contract you would be eligible for the finance program. After seeing this I was able to let my future employer know that I would be able to take on the job. Eventually after taking ages to hear back from Wes bank I am told that I need to have a job in line with my degree to apply. But this wasn’t a requirement on the site. I feel that this is also discriminatory towards many South Africans who have studied BA degrees. Finding a job as a BA student in your field of study is just not something easily attainable in South Africa. Then I was told that I don’t make enough money when I additionally submitted my weekend job’s pay slip. I was asked “did you read the requirements?” Obviously my weekend job would not be making me R7500 or above but my job that I would be starting in December does. Then I was told that the employment contract was not enough and that I had to first receive my first salary. Again, this was not in the requirements which they posted on their website! So now with my application it’s as if my actual job (not weekend job) is actually not counted by them as a source of income. And just because the job description was personal assistant. Maybe personal assistants shouldn’t have cars? I don’t know.
I guess I will be working without a car until I can produce a three months bank statement and payslips where I will get car financing with any other financial service provider because clearly Wes bank isn’t the one.
Moral of the story, it’s true don’t use Wes bank
