Cheated by top up cover
I bought a car which Wesbank financed. a Polo vivo 1.4 Trendline. They also took care of the cover plus top up insurance. After more than two years, my wife had an accident and the car was written off.The main insurance then asked Wesbank for a settlement amount they quoted R119856.62. The main insurance then paid R107100.00 which was what they should have paid .. I then contacted Wesbank insurance about the cover up policy. They informed that . they will do all the paper work and the rest would be settled. Today 21 July 2015. I got an E-Mail from them informing me the cover up settled their part and that I must pay from my side an amount of R10231.09 immediately or I must contact them for arrangements. I contacted them on the tel. number provided. I talked to the agent from Wesbank Insurance department and asked what this is all about, she informed me that the cover up policy states that it will pay the difference between the outstanding amount on the day of the incident and the main insurance. The amount was R110540.64 according to them I want to know why a difference from the quote to first insurer and the top up insurance of R10231.09 which I now must pay
Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention and after investigating your concerns, we wish to respond as follows:
Your comprehensive insurance as well as the shortfall protector policy neither serve the purpose of insuring the any value added items that increase the overall principle debt nor the excess that may be applicable. This may result in a shortfall on the account however in this instance we have requested the cancellation of the auxi****y policies as this should lower the amount outstanding considerably. Direct contact has been established to reconfirm this position and you will be advised as soon as the refunds are received from the underwriters. We humbly apologise if clarity was not provided whilst due process was being observed.
We trust that this is in order and assure you of our best intentions at all times.
Yours sincerely,
WesBank
