Webuycars.co.za refusing to resolve fines from before ownership of the car
On the 1st September 2022, I purchased a Renault Clio from the Johannesburg South Branch of Webuycars.co.za. The sales person who serviced us was called Molefi. It was my understanding that all outstanding fines and warrants against the car would have been addressed and resolved as a part of the sales process by law.
I am a first time buyer and I trusted and re**** on the company because I do not know all the ins and outs. And a reputable dealer should protect me.
To my surprise, I came to renew my license and I cannot renew it because there is a fine against the car from May 2022 in Cape Town. This was from before I took possession of the vehicle.
Today I went to Webuycars.co.za and Katlego in the consumer service department and I was explicitly told that I must locate the prior owner and somehow persuade them to pay for the fines. While I am trying to do this, I am driving a car without a license which could result in fines to me as a result.
Since I questioned Katlego about their response, I have since not managed to get any further response.
I have called their customer service line and I have now had to write an email about the problem. I do not understand this as I went to the branch and provided everything to them in person.
It feels like they are making my life difficult and giving me the run around so I pay the fine because I do not want to get in trouble for no license disc and for them the problem goes away.
