We Buy Cars - Worst Business Ethics

I bought a car cash, same day it gave us battery issues, couldn't start without push. 2 days later I bought a new battery. 4th day the drive belt snapped while driving on a highway, I called the salesman and he advised that I should take the car in for diagnoses and fixing at a dealer, towed the car to its brand dealer, they found out the pullers were damaged and needed to be fixed, I spent R6900.00 to fix it. I drove to the nearest fuel station to pour diesel, the tank started leaking and released fuel on the floor, I paid another R800.00 for spilled fuel.

I raised this with We Buy Cars and they told me they cannot reimburse because I did not get authorisation from them to fix the car, I told them that this rule is not documented anywhere and their salesman did not tell me about this process when I informed him immediately about the broken drive belt. They still refuse to attend to the matter and referred me to the ombudsman for assistance. Right now the car is leaking oil from the engine and I feel it will be a waste of time to inform them of this.

This was my first experience with them and I wouldn't recommend anyone to do business there. They stand on unwritten policies and have staff who do not seem to know these policies as well. This was my first and last business transaction with them, very disappointing.

Hi Thabo,

As per the feedback previously provided, kindly find that we will await your complaint from the Motor Industry Ombudsman in order to take the matter further.

It is really absurd that you have to refer your customers to MIO instead of taking responsibility for your mess. This is the worst kind of attitude in your business. You don't need MIO complaint, you deserve to be sued. Brace yourselves.
