We Buy Cars - but don't expect good aftercare support.
Do not buy a vehicle from We Buy Cars if you can help it. They have a professional superficial front but behind the scenes they lack business and moral ethics
1. The vehicles all have a so-called Dekra report. DO NOT TRUST THE DEKRA REPORT. The dekra report highlights only superficial issues and will say the "function is not impaired" which basicaly means you can drive it but it will most probably blowup soon after.
2. When buying a vehicle off the website you are given the Dekra report to sign and accept the vehicle as it is in accordance to what is highlighted in the report(this is one of their points in their contract even though it's ******* to sell a vehicle "as is" or "Voetstoets".) Thank goodness for the CPA I might add. Once you pay the deposit they give you 24 hours to pay the rest afterwhich you can opt to pick the vehicle up or have it transported to you for a fee. This is where I must add that GOODLUCK if you want it transported to ANYWHERE where there is no WBC Dealership as they will not deliver the car to your town. Even if said Town is East London. They will make you go fetch it in Port Elizebeth even if they have to drive through East London to get there. Ridiculous.
3. So after having to arrange outside courier you'll recieve the vehicle and I might add that I can't speak for all the WBC dealerships, but the one in Durban wil not wash, clean, valet, inspect, refuel etc the car. You will recieve the vehicle exactly how the previous owner brought it in. In my case I recieved the vehicle, dirty inside and out with tons of visable mold down the side of the doors and center console. Pie crumbs, sand, sticky fast food residue everywhere. Also car is on dead empty so would need to limp from pickup point to a petrol station. Fantastic service from a dealership (input sarcasm).
4. Once recieved you must expect alot more to be wrong with the vehicle than stated in the report and write up. In my case a blown engine with metal filings in the oil. Great. Perfect present for my wife. So after towing the vehicle home and perculating for a weekend I decided to not make it my problem and make it WeBuy Cars problem because I was not going to be replacing the engine if a vehicle I've done less then 2km in.
5. Complaint submission. Goodluck. If you think you would rather phone headoffice to submit a complaint then I can stop you right there. They have a "process" which they will tell you to go to the website and submit a complaint form. Just remember to keep your detailed complaint to a minimum of 100characters or you will not be able to continue writing. After submitting a short description on the form you can then write a full description on email and send through. Goodluck getting a response as it took about 3 days and several phone calls later to get a response which entails you having to give all the details of the vehicle " like they didn't have them before " and another full description of your complaint or problem. Once you've gotten off the phone call you may feel that you've accomplished something. No, you have not. Because your complaint will get lost in the system and you'll have to end up phoning again and again and again until finaly someone responds. And this is where I finaly got a break. Dealing with Ann in the customer care department was a light at the end of the tunnel as she is on the ball and always ready to keep you updated. Once my complaint was finaly escalated to management they will take about 2 days to decide whether or not to offer a refund or repair. So after stating my case and making it very clear that an un drivable car was sold to me and I was led on by a False Dekra report they still denied my claim stating one of the points in the dekra report said the car would show signs of wear and tear. I guess it was just time for its annual motor change? After having a row with management and having Ann talk to her manager they decided to give me a refund. I thought great. I'll get my money back and start looking for another deal. Ha! That would be too easy wouldn't it.
6. The refund. By this time you may think that the story was over. No. You'd be wrong, after waiting 2 or 3 days for the WeBuyCars flatbed to pick the vehicle up, management said that they will do a refund within 48 hours of having the vehicle in their possession "as if the We Buy Cars flatbed isn't enough to have it in their possession I waited until they took it to the P.E. branch. So once it was their which took apparently 3 days from collection in East london to P.E only 300km away, they finaly said that they have recieved it and that payment has been made which was a friday. Great. Well not actually because after the weekend I was phoned on Monday stating that Now only the payment has been made. I thought okay well that's unfortunate because interbank payments take 2 days so I'd only recieve it on Wednesday. I thought whatever, atleast its done. Wednesday comes no money. Phone WBC headoffice again and find out that the payment hasn't been made. At this point I'm pretty livid but I'm a man of great patience or so I thought. At this point I must state that this was a large amount as I had bought the car cash. After asking them to kindly make payment immediately I was told they're on it. It's now 3 days later there's been no progress. And at the time of writing this review its been 8 days since they said they've refunded me and its now Friday again with no response from the payment department. I've also lost 2 deals as I have no deposit to purchase an alternative vehicle. So as the radio silence ensues I hope no one makes the mistake of buying a vehicle from We Buy Cars. They will sell you a car at retail value that's worth less than half of it. And will treat you like a number.
