We Buy Cars

I purchased a vehicle on 2025-05-07 from We Buy Cars Dome Branch, Randburg on auction. I collected the vehicle on same day and drove home with it to Vanderbijlpark where I live. About 45km since I left the branch the car back-fired and started to lose power. I then stopped at the N1 Engen blockhouse garage south bound before the Grasmere tollgate for safety reasons. The vehicle then stalled and it wouldn't start again afterwards. When I switched the ignition on again I noticed that the heat gauge was in the red but all the time I was driving it was on normal temperature. Smoke also came from the engine bay. I phoned the salesman who assisted me and he advised I should tow the vehicle safely home and register a complaint which I did on the same day. I then spoke to Amarah Patel and was advised to get a RMI approved mechanic to do a report which was done and forwarded to Amarah Patel on 2025-05-09 via Email. I advised that I would like to keep the vehicle and if possible We Buy Cars to assist in repairing or replacing the engine. On 2025-05-20 I received a WhatsApp message in which We Buy Cars informed me that the claim was declined for the amount of R 89900.00. This amount is more than the purchase price so which I don't understand why. Further more, on the Dekra report that was done by We Buy Cars it was stated that the cooling system and the engine oil is in very good condition. Nothing indicated that this would happen otherwise I would have taken the precaution in rather towing the car home or put it on a trailer. Or nevertheless I wouldn't have bought the vehicle.

I did my own research and an imported engine at MYM Autoworld in Alberton would only cost R 24000.00. A complete engine rebuild would be way more expensive. If I could be compensated for the said amount in order for me to get my vehicle running again it would be highly appreciated.

We Buy Cars simply gave a cold shoulder to the whole situation. I have proof from the mechanic currently fixing the car on my own expense which is costing me a lot of money. This proof includes photos from the engine which indicates that the engine had a coolant leak for quite some time which could have easily been seen when the Dekra report was drawn up by We Buy Cars.
