Soooooooooooo DISAPPOINTED with We Buy Cars!
What was supposed to be a new beginning has ended in our worst nightmare. Our starting point was based on a previous experience with We Buy Cars going back to 27 June 2020 - We Buy Cars purchased our Hyndai Getz just before we left SA for the UK. They gave us a fair price and the whole experience was a pleasure. Fast track to February 2025 when on our return to SA we needed a car, so who better to do business with than We Buy Cars we knew and trusted? BIG MISTAKE!!! The little Citroen C3 we fell in love with on We Buy Cars, Umgeni Road showroom floor was really good looking, great body, tyres, apholstery, DEKRA report on the engine was "GLOWING".....everything mechanical was marked "VERY GOOD" including the cooling system. The service history was impressive with very regular services and maintenance carried out timeously. The ONLY downside was the aircon "Poor" and suspension.....both front stabalizer links were damaged, and both front and rear control arm bushes were worn. We agreed that we would have these suspension faults attended to. The main thing was the engine and gearbox had passed inspection with flying colours. The car was within our budget, we had the cash, so the agent took us for a test drive up the road and back. Everything seemed great, the paperwork was concluded, the EFT done, and we drove home in our new wheels. This was Saturday afternoon 15 February 2025. On Monday 17 February, less than 100 Kms later, the computer screen flashed engine hot! but it was too late, the thermostat gushed steam and there we sat in the rush hour traffic! A very kind gentleman towed us home. On reporting this unhappy incident to We Buy Cars they said, "Not to worry, we will appoint a customer care agent to you and he will take care of you. In the meantime take the vehicle to an RMI-approved workshop and ask them to send We Buy Cars a quotation for the repair". What a relief! These guys are brilliant. So, R1600.00 in towing fees later, our little C3 was parked at an RMI garage in Umhlanga Ridge. The We Buy Cars customer care agent was a pleasant, compassionate (or so we thought) man who assured us that everything was under control and that he would do everything he could to get us back on the road again. And we believed him. Our case# 85993 was in good hands.... Very slippery hands we were to find out later! We Buy Cars dragged out the process until the 13th March 2025, and then in an email, absolved themselves of all responsibility, they pointed out that they were protected by the wording in the sales document we had signed. They could have pointed this out on day one, 17th February. Instead, we were directed by them to an RMI workshop where We Buy Cars proceeded to run the show and communicate with the workshop manager. This lasted almost one calendar month! We had no recourse, the DEKRA report was of no effect (implying that we were stupid even to believe the DEKRA report). BYE BYE,... your problem Mr. & Mrs. Customer!! How many We Buy Cars customers have been fobbed off as we have been? We are way over our original budget now. Where is this company's moral compass?
