In 2022 I bought a VW Polo 1.2tdi blue motion 4 door from we buy cars through their auction platform. The car was located in JHB and I stay in the western cape. I this bought the car from what I could see on the Dekra report as well as what was listed on their website.

I paid R55,000 for the car as it had some body damage and oil leaks listed. I then paid extra to get the car shipped down to the western cape. On collection of the vehicle at one of their cape town branches I immediately noticed that the vehicle was in way worse condition as listed on the website. Now with it being a auction I knew I took a gamble and decided to take it on the cheek.

I took the car home which barely made it on its own steam to my garage. After months of endless bills and fixing countless problems as well has having had to do structural repairs to the vehicle which was never listed before or during the sale I eventually got the car back onto the road. The total bill spent was just under R60,000. This included a unavoidable respray as just about every body panel was completely bent. The car thus owe me around R115,000. I only manage to drive it for 5000km in the year I had it as it was in the garage being repaired for the first 7months that I owned it.

So I decide to sell the car along with another vehicle that I own as I would like to get a new family car that is also light on diesel but have a bit more space for the family (compared to the polo). Naturally I give We Buy Cars the first go at buying the vehicle back and they offer me R85,000 for it via their online process. Then the we buy cars inspector arrived and after spending some time going through the vehicle he sends a report saying all of the wear and tear on the car is normal and the car is in good nick overall. He noted the car has been resprayed and this comes as no surprise to me as I commissioned the spray works through a very reputable VW approved pannelbeater (i have to note that you cannot tell the car was resprayed, the only way he new was because the colour was changed given the fact thay every panel had to be resprayed in any case given the condition they sold the car to me as).

Where I am absolutely shocked was to find out that they now only offer R45,000 for the car. (i.e. R10,000 i paid for it from them a year ago).

I just want to say that I think We Buy cars is a complete ******* and I cannot see myself ever doing business with them again.
