Misrepresentation
I A warning to all South African consumers.
In February 2025, I bought a used Suzuki S-Presso from We Buy Cars. I was explicitly told the vehicle came with a warranty until 2027. and also a 2-year "Wear and Tear Service Plan". The invoice doesn't lie.
In October, the car suffered a catastrophic failure. A loud noise, a violent jolt, and then – no gears would engage. An RMI-approved mechanic found the cause: a collapsed bearing and metal filings throughout the gearbox – a clear mechanical breakdown.
I lodged a claim in 17 October assuming it's the clutch ,turn out the issue was bigger The gear Box is leaking .
Their response? A 6-page letter denying the claim. Their sole reason? The 6-month Consumer Protection Act (CPA) warranty had expired. They completely ignored the existence of the active, PAID-FOR "Wear and Tear Service Plan" .
But there's more. In May 2025, We Buy Cars' own workshop had "repaired" this very gearbox. The current failure suggests that repair was never done correctly, a claim that should be covered under their own 6-month repair warranty. They've ignored this, too.
So, to recap, they have denied a valid claim by:
1. Ignoring the "Wear and Tear Service Plan" I bought. 2. Ignoring the warranty on their own faulty repair work. 3. Ignoring their own sales promise of a "warranty until 2027".
I'm sharing this publicly because consumers need to be aware. Read the fine prints. A warranty is only as good as the company's integrity to stand behind it. As I also expected transparency from this Dealer
