Misleading Condition Report: WeBuyCars Denies Repairing Safety Fault

I recently purchased a vehicle from WeBuyCars Germiston. During my initial viewing and when reviewing the condition report, there were no warning lights displayed on the dashboard. The report clearly stated in the Overall Summary that “all systems are in good order”, with the only noted concern being the rear left tyre which may require replacement.

Furthermore, in the Vehicle Interior section, the report states that “no issues are noted that would impact safety or comfort”. Under Warning Lights / Sounds, it also specifies that “no active warning lights or sounds present”.

However, on the day I collected the vehicle, during the handover inspection, I immediately noticed an illuminated warning light and a message indicating a fault with the night vision system, which is a safety-related feature. I informed the sales executive, who assured me that the issue would be resolved and requested that I bring the vehicle back for repairs.

Shortly thereafter, the vehicle had an engine coolant leak. I returned the car to WeBuyCars Germiston on 7 January 2025 for the coolant leak, night vision fault and other issues (also not on condition report) to be repaired.

Despite my patience, I only received feedback on 15 January, stating that the matter had been escalated to upper management. On 16 January, I was informed that upper management had approved repairs for all defects except the night vision fault. This response was extremely disappointing, particularly given that the fault was discovered on the day I took delivery of the vehicle and contradicts what was represented on the condition report. I requested that the decision be reviewed, but I was again told that upper management refuses to approve the night vision repair.

It has now been almost three weeks since I returned the vehicle and we have reached a deadlock. I still do not have my car back. If the fault had existed prior to purchase and was clearly disclosed, I would accept responsibility. However, given the facts outlined above, I believe WeBuyCars should take accountability for resolving this issue. I am not prepared to accept the vehicle back until all faults that are not highlighted on the condition report, including the night vision system, have been rectified.

This is my first experience purchasing from WeBuyCars and unfortunately, it has been far below expectations. I have raised several service concerns with their customer care as well. Depending on how this matter is resolved, I may consider providing a detailed Hellopeter review to highlight the level of incompetence and poor service I have experienced.

I trust that WeBuyCars will take this matter seriously and respond with an appropriate solution.
