Issue Not Resolved – Defective Car, Ignition Failure, Still Paying for Unusable Vehicle
This issue is still not resolved.
I purchased a vehicle from Webuycars on 31 December 2025. On 20 February 2026 , after being given the runaround, the vehicle was eventually collected by Webuycars due to a serious ignition failure (***). The car would not start at all using both keys and was completely unusable for two days.
I requested a quote to understand the issue, and based on the seriousness of the defect, I formally requested a refund in terms of the Consumer Protection Act, as the vehicle is clearly not reliable or fit for purpose.
Due to lack of response and urgency from Webuycars, I escalated the matter to the Motor Industry Ombudsman of South Africa (MIOSA ***).
On 9 March, Webuycars responded stating that I owe them R29,532.40 for “car usage.” I do not understand how I can be charged for a vehicle that is defective, non-functional, and unreliable. This vehicle has already placed my family in unsafe situations and left me and my children without transport.
Despite all of this, I am still paying debit orders for the vehicle as of 9 April, even though I do not have use of it.
This situation is unacceptable. I have acted in good faith, but Webuycars has failed to resolve this matter fairly and urgently.
I am requesting that this matter be resolved immediately, with a full refund and no unjust charges for usage of a defective vehicle.
