Great Up to a Point
I bought a car from WeBuyCars Dome recently, started off well and now I'm at a loss. I bid on the car online and won on the 15th of April. Everything was great, the support and service was fantastic. Mr S sent me more pictures of the vehicle, phoned around to ensure the service record was legitimate, and agreed to hold it for me after I paid just under half the total price as a deposit. They even offered an extended warranty and registration package. I asked Mr S if the registration will be fast, because I'm crossing the border on 19 April so I need the papers. He sai yes of course, 6 weeks max. On 16 April I signed all the paperwork in Nelspruit branch where I stay, on 17 April I paid the full amount, and on 20 April I fetched the vehicle at the Dome. While there I spoke to Mr S about the registration and reminded him of the urgency - no worries, standard procedure, it will get couriered to Nelspruit as soon as it's ready. This confirmed what I've been told at the Nelspruit branch so I was happy. Ecstatic in fact, this is the first time I've ever bought a car. Three days later Mr S asks for my proof of address, I thought it was strange because I submitted it with the paperwork, but oh well I sent it through. Skip ahead two weeks, 6 May, I'm checking in to hear how far the registration is. Mr S says he'll follow up for me: "Hi it's still at the traffic department we waiting for it to arrive at the dome". That's great, that means it just needs to be sent there then here! No news. One more week 13 May, I follow up again, no response. 14 May Mr S says sorry he's on leave, he'll follow up. I say he doesn't have to, he can just send me the department number, I don't want to bother him while he's on leave. He just forwards the response: "the system shows that it has been done waiting for the copy of the natis to be sent to us" - I figure, okay, it feels strange that they don't have a weekly post run between them and the traffic department but it's okay, I still have 5 weeks. Deliveries from there to Nelspruit is 3 days. 10 Days later, 24 May, no news. I follow up again. 25 May I get this forwarded message "Hi Mr S your client things are ready for collection". I'm thinking "Great! I can swing by after work." but just to make sure, let me hear who has it, so I say "Thanks Mr S, where can I collect it?" No response. Next week 30 May, Mr S doesn't answer his phone. I call WeBuyCars customer service, they promise to follow up and call me back. No call back. Another week passes. 3 June I ask Mr S for the details of the people doing registrations. He sends me a number and apologizes for the delay. I say it's fine because he likely has no control over the matter or is determined to pretend that he does not. The number he sent is impossible to call, and does not respond to WhatsApps. I phone customer service again. I explain everything, she'll call me back. No call back. 5 hours passed. I call again, explain everything again "Oh, it's at the dome, Mrs C wil lsend it through to Nelspruit today, it will arrive in 3 days. Mrs C will phone you in 10 minutes to confirm." No call back. 3 days later, 6 June, I ask Mr S to confirm with Mrs C if the docs were sent through to Nelspruit - no response. I phone customer service, explain everything. "Sorry but Mrs C is on leave, and I can't get a hold of Mr S", I respond with "Okay so what now?" she says "I'll send the registration department a mail to call you", I say no no no, I keep losing the I'll call you game. I explain my whole scary situation where I need the papers to cross the border. She says "I'm sorry sir, I will phone you personally after I follow up with them". Thank you, finally, someone who takes my plight seriously! The only call I got was a wake-up call. These people already have your money, they don't care anymore. I phone again the next day 7 June, explain everything. Keep in mind, my everything story gets longer with each call. The lady says she'll follow up and phone me back. I'm getting better at the game and asked her if it will be within 2 hours. She says definitely. So obviously after two hours with no callback I call again, and reach someone else. The guy is understanding, he does his best to reach Mr S, Mrs C, the registration department - he and I are equally sad about our powerlessness, and so he uses the ace up his sleeve. He'll escalate the matter. That's great! Why has no one else offered this to me yet!? Surely very few cases get escalated! No callback. I also sent a message to Mr S again, but got no response. Now I'm stressed. There are only two weeks before I need to cross the border. So today, 10 June, I call again. I explain the whole big thing. "Sorry. There's nothing we can do.", "The dome doesn't have outside numbers.", "I can't share contact details of the registration department.", "You should go in person", "I'm in Nelspruit 4 hours away, that's not an option", "Then you'll have to wait, I've sent a mail". This was by far the most indifferent person I've spoken to in customer service. I can only imagine that this is what happens when the system renders you completely powerless to support clients. But lo and behold! Mr S responds to my latest message sent earlier today, "I'll go hear". Trust score at this point = 0. I follow up again after 3 hours. Nothing. But then he calls! He's on his way there. He'll send me picture of the registration document if they still have it! Oh Mr S, how I have doubted you, thank you for coming through. He sends me a picture of the license disc and number plate explaining that he's sorry they took so long they "had to dig it out under all the other stuff". "This is great! Thank you! Will it reach me before the weekend? Could you send a pic of the registration as well, I need proof that I own it" Then he explains that he doesn't know if it'll make it because "as I can see" they haven't sent it yet. Also, Mr S suggested that I phone the bank for the registration document since the car is financed. "It's not financed, I bought it in cash" Why else would I be fighting with you for three weeks to get the registration documents if I could have just got them from the bank? So now it's been just over an hour. He doesn't know if they'll send it today but he did "send the request for it to be sent". Shouldn't the request have been sent with the documents? Or 25 May when it was ready for collection? Or in any of the more than 7 calls that I was in with customer service? What the hell is happening? Why can't I talk to anyone at the branch or in the licensing the department that understands where my vehicles documents are? I'm happy to share full names, dates and numbers with anyone at WeBuyCars that's willing to help. I don't know who's at fault for what, I just want proof that I legally own the vehicle.
