A Huge Thank You to We Buy Cars – Dome Branch!

We would like to express our deepest gratitude to the We Buy Cars Dome Branch, and especially to Branch Manager Dan Harber and Operations Manager Louis, for their outstanding service, support, and care during a very difficult time with our vehicle.

In February 2024, we purchased a Renault Duster from We Buy Cars, fully aware that the aircon was not working and that there was no service history. We took full responsibility, repaired the aircon at our own cost, and made sure to service the car at both 90,000 km and 105,000 km.

Shortly before the 105,000 km service, we noticed issues with the turbo in 4th and 5th gear. We assumed it was a minor issue, possibly a clogged filter. However, even after servicing, the engine light stayed on. The diagnostic test pointed to the mini-cat, which we later found out had been removed before we purchased the car – something quite common in older vehicles.

We sought help from Renault Roodepoort, who initially assured us it was an easy fix. After waiting the entire day with no update, we were finally contacted and told the car had major issues. When we arrived, a receptionist (not a mechanic) handed us a shocking quote of R153,000. After speaking to the service manager and a technician, we were told the car had been in a massive accident, was completely damaged, and should be written off. We were devastated and overwhelmed.

In our desperation, we reached out to Dan Harber at We Buy Cars. Despite the fact that our purchase had been over a year ago, Dan listened compassionately and took our concerns seriously. He arranged for the vehicle to be collected from our home so their team could inspect it properly.

To our relief, their technicians discovered that the real issues were relatively minor: faulty booster pipes, a pulley, and the car’s computer needing reprogramming due to the missing mini-cat. We Buy Cars fixed the booster pipes at no cost to us and took the car to a specialist to sort out the remaining issues. What Renault quoted at R153,000 was ultimately resolved for just R6,100.

They even delivered the car back to our home, fully fixed.

What felt like a hopeless situation turned into a testimony of kindness, professionalism, and integrity. We truly believe God had His hand in this, and we are incredibly grateful to Dan and Louis for their honesty, empathy, and willingness to go above and beyond for us.
