I purchased my Ford EcoSport 1.5 Ti-VCT from WeBuyCars at approximately 88,000 km. At the time of purchase, I was told that the vehicle had a **full service history**. Nothing was disclosed to me regarding the cambelt being overdue or not having been replaced.
The vehicle had previously been serviced at Ford, and the cambelt was not replaced. I only became aware of the issue afterwards when trying to have the cambelt covered under the service plan I purchased through Innovation Group.
Innovation Group has refused to cover the cambelt because they say it was already overdue. I have now been quoted approximately **R18,000** for the cambelt replacement.
I contacted WeBuyCars to raise my concerns, but their response was that the cambelt is a “routine maintenance item” and therefore they are not liable to assist.
I understand that a cambelt is a routine maintenance item. **That is not my complaint.** My concern is that I purchased the vehicle based on the representation that it had a **full service history**, without being informed that a significant manufacturer-recommended maintenance item was already overdue/not completed.
If I had known this before purchasing the vehicle, I would have been able to make an informed decision about whether to purchase the vehicle and/or negotiate the price accordingly.
I am extremely disappointed with how this matter has been handled. I believe the representation regarding the vehicle's service history needs to be properly investigated.
I have formally disputed the matter with WeBuyCars and will escalate it further if it is not resolved satisfactorily.
**Potential buyers: I strongly recommend verifying the complete service history and checking all major manufacturer-recommended maintenance items before purchasing a vehicle from WeBuyCars.**
