Extremely disappointing

I’m not a person who writes reviews, but this is one case where I feel that I need to share my experience dealing with webuycars.co.za

We’ve all seen the adverts “ sell your car, quickly and easily, today!” and “we’re the safe bet”! So I thought let me give them a try, as I’m looking to sell my car quickly and as hassle free as possible.

So I filled in the required form online. Got a response back saying that they would be interested for a base price in the region of R405 000- R 415 000. It’s a brand new car with 10 000 km on the clock, a very popular make, some pretty decent extras, bought a couple of months ago for considerably more than that. So I thought it was a pretty low price. But the ease and simplicity of it was appealing, so I eventually agreed. I was then asked to meet the salesman to have the car inspected and complete the transaction. Two of the salesmen when through my car from top to bottom with a fine tooth comb( I wouldn’t expect anything less!) The first salesman remarked that the car was spotless. The second salesman said “that the dealer where the car was bought could take it as is, and just put it straight back on to their show room” that’s how great the state of the car was. I was asked for my paperwork etc. So job done right? Not so fast.

When the salesman phoned his manager to sort out the pricing, I could sense that not all was well. The look on his face gave it away, and I heard him say “ but we have a base figure for the vehicle”. Needles to say, he got up and continued the conversation outside. Now obviously I can’t say what that conversation was about, but I assume it had to do with pricing. When the salesman returned he handed me back my paperwork and said that he would phone me Monday morning first thing with a price, and that we’ll sort everything out then. I informed him that I was moving overseas and that I didn’t have too much time to play with. If there was a problem, that would be a good time to let me know. They were also supposed to pick the car up from the airport. So if there was a problem, I kind of need to make a plan with my car. Especially since I’m leaving the country, and basically sold everything. So finding a place to park my car last minute, would be extremely inconvenient also. I also said that I would expect an offer with in the base range they have given me ( R405 000- R 415 000). This is the price that they came up with, not me. Of course it’s their prerogative whether they want to buy the car or not. However if you’re willing to buy within your base price range, we kind of have to agree on a figure within the base range. As I said before, it’s their price they came up with not mine. My responsibility would be to deliver the car to them as advertised- in immaculate condition. Which I did, as the comments from the salesmen would attest to.

Now Monday morning came and went. I ended up phoning the salesman myself. I was told that he would phone me back shortly with a price. 10 minutes before I was supposed to check in for my flight I was told that they would be happy to buy the car for R350 000. Now that completely backed me in to a corner. What choices do I have? Choice 1- Tell them where they can go(if you know what I mean) try and have someone collect the car, park it who knows where, and deal with it when I get to my destination. Or option 2- Sell the car to them at an extremely reduced offer. Well I went with option 1.

So be extremely careful when dealing with these guys. As I said, they came up with the base price. They decided to wait until 99 to come with a lowball offer. My end of the deal was met( I gave them a car in a better condition than they expected.). And they tried to get away with another R55 000 just before I’m about to board a flight. I can understand if I brought them my car with dents in it, neglected, or not in perfect working order. In my opinion- these guys are extremely ********* in the way they handled this. And I personally won’t touch them with a pole.

And it’s for this reason that I felt obliged to write this review.
