DO NOT BUY CAR FROM WE BUY CARS!

On the 10th of Feb 2024 myself and partner bought a used vehicle from WeBuyCars Brackenfell branch, a 1.2 TDI Bluemotion Volkswagen for R83 000 cash (by means of a personal loan from Direct axis.

My partner test drove the car before purchasing and we were aware of the defects as listed on DEKRA report, this includes: 1. A Service that was due 2. A Faulty fuel gauge 3. Both front control arm brushes worn/cracked 4. Multiple warning lights on dashboard 5. Rear tyre sizes that are different.

A week and a half after purchasing the car, he noticed that the car was losing power while driving, eventually leading the car to lose power and switch off in traffic. He had to be jumpstarted. We thought it could be that the it was due to be serviced. He had the car transported to the mechanic which cost us R750 as the car was not driving.

The mechanic let us know that the the air filter is faulty, the fuel pump was faulty and the filter was not in the pump, one pipe was not connected - my partner bought a new fuel pump which ended up costing R9000.

Software needed to be updated, fuel injectors were also faulty and cost about 15 000 each. All three injectors need to be replaced.

All the bolts and *****s on the engine were loose as well.

The first agent contacted me (Amara Patel) I explained to her what happened. She said that another agent was going to be assigned the case, but that there were three options available: 1. Cancel the sale and get a full refund 2. Get a replacement vehicle of the same value 3. They fit the bill for the repairs.

The case when assigned to Meghan S. She initially contacted my partner and said that there are now 2 options: 1. Cancel the sale and get a refund 2. They fit 50% of the repair costs Understandably my partner became upset and said that he's not accepting the 50% repair costs and that he wants to return the car and get a refund. As they were not completely transparent about the repair work that was needed on the car.

I then phoned Meghan, to ask if there any further developments as I was informed by the helpdesk that she was in a meeting with management and unable to answer my call.

She then came back and said that after consulting with management there's now only option 1. They offering to pay 50% of the repair costs.

And that because mechanic replaced the fuel pump, this voids any refund of the vehicle. Also because this was a cash buy and not financed they cannot refund us our money.

Our argument on this is, how would we have known about all these other faults on the car if the car was not inspected by the mechanic?

According to the Consumer Protection act, there is a 6 month cooling off period. We notified them 3 weeks after the sale.

They sold us a vehicle and the extra defects/damages on the car prohibits the vehicle from driving.

I have also requested a copy of the phone call recordings from WeBuyCars and not response from them. I want to prove that with every phone call their story changed.

Webuycars did not disclose major defects on the car that was sold to us, refuses to refund our money, 3 and half weeks after sale. Only willing to pay for 50% of the repair cost. Mechanic quoted us R65 675.35 for repairs. 3 fuel injectors costing R45000 alone.
