Bad Experience, issue with car
The following is regarding a Toyota Corolla 2.0D that I bought from Midstream We Buy/Sell Cars. On the 30th November 2017 I visited the branch to take the car for a test drive. After the staff struggled to get the car started due to a battery issue I managed to test drive the car only in the parking area, which was not sufficient. A car cannot be properly road tested in a parking lot to see if everything works as it should.
Even though I was not able to test the car properly, I decided to buy the car because it is after all from "We Sell Cars" which is not a ***** place. I went back to the Midstream branch on Monday 4 December to complete the paperwork, the finance was already approved on the previous visit. I spend the whole day (9am to after 5pm) at the branch waiting to get everything done because the system froze and did not respond a few times and we had to start over the process a few times.
Eventually when we managed to get all the paperwork done, the last thing was for the car to go for a Roadworthy test. The car came back and passed the Roadworthy. At just after 5pm I left the branch on my way home to Lydenburg, with only 30 minutes of driving the car's temperature gauge went up to 3 quarters. So I stopped at the closest filling station and the car had no water in. After filling up the water reservoir the car was driving fine (temp normal) until just before Witbank when it started to overheat again. At this stage, it was clear to me that the car was leaking water somewhere. I stopped again and the car had no water. After carrying on like this, I eventually arrived home in Lydenburg at 11:00pm after stopping at literally every filling garage on the way to fill up the water.
I contacted the lady who assisted me with buying the car the next day and she told me that she is sorry about the experience and that she doesn't understand how can a car pass Roadworthy with such a problem. I suspected the problem could be the head gasket that is leaking because I started to see oily bubbles in the water tank. I took the car to Bosch Service Centre Lydenburg and the Technician confirmed that either the head gasket has blown or the head cracked.
Again, I contacted the lady from We Buy/Sell Cars and told her the news and she suggested to send a technician to come and inspect the car. This is not really going to sort out the issue that I am having, an accredited workshop already inspected the car. From my opinion, the car needs be loaded on a flatbed truck and taken back to Midstream to fix or taken to the closest Toyota dealer and I insist on getting a courtesy car while the Toyota is in for repairs.
My concern about all of this is, if the car was properly tested on the road for +/- 15 minutes I would have picked this up or even the staff. The staff would also have picked up the issue if the car was tested before they bought the car from the previous owner. The fact that any car going in and out of We Buy/Sell Cars are not taken for a proper test drive is a big concern. Some problems on a car can only be seen or noticed when the car is running "on temperature", like in this case a water leak.
I work on a mine 65km away from home and need to have a running car as soon as possible.
Can a manager at We Buy/Sell Cars please assist in getting this sorted out as soon as possible? I am working underground during the day so my phone will be off sometimes, but you are more than welcome to send me an email or WhatsApp me if my phone is off.
During the whole process Ilse and Mark assisted me with buying the car.
