Vox Fibre to the home - before signing up

This concerns fibre to the home. I have, in effect, downgraded my 2 person home connectivity by upgrading from Telkom copper adsl to Vox Fibre.

I understand 'connectivity' as the ability to use the handful of everyday wifi-enabled devices that the two people living in my household would like to use. VOX fibre to the home does not provide this service.

The installation was done speedily but billing starts the minute you are connected, the timing of this you'll only know once the technician arrives to 'plug in' & complete the second phase of the installation. Consider this when cancelling other internet accounts, such as Telkom, which require 30 days notice. You are given an estimate of 4-6 weeks by VOX but you could start being billed in 2 weeks if technicians are available and install your fibre quickly (the seamless installation - not done by VOX - is the only reason this is a 2-star review).

Vox provides fibre to the home, what they DO NOT provide is fast connectivity for devices within the home. For example, the router they provide 'for free' does not have the capacity for me to play an online video on my apple tv, via my laptop computer - this at standard definition with no other processes running. This is inferior to the copper cable adsl connection that Telkom currently provides me (via a stronger router). Both sets of hardware were provided free by the respective service providers and are placed in the same locations.

If I cancel my service then I am required to pay back the installation fee, some of which would go towards an ineffective router. My other option is to purchase a replacement router with even average WIFI capacity, I feel this hugely wasteful, not to mention expensive and irritating.

Speaking to numerous VOX agents on the phone and via email I have been up against a company that you cannot negotiate with. Their word is final, the customer has no say. I have halted a second VOX fibre to the home installation at my parents in law's house. Telling them that this would be the case if it was going to be a repeat of my installation had no effect on the outcome - they're happy to lose a second customer to show that they are correct. They will lose me as a customer the second I can get out of the installation clause, perhaps earlier based purely on principle.

I hope that this review helps others avoid the unnecessary costs and, more importantly, hours of frustration and circular arguments that I have endured the past 2 days.
