Vox charge R1198 for call out fee on a 5min job to swap out power supply worth R112
Last night while watching Netflix, my internet (VOX fibre) went down, I phoned them, the quality of the call was terrible and I could barely hear what the person was saying, after 20 minutes he concluded the router is faulty and has to be replaced. He could not tell me when they can do this, I indicated that I have to work from home due to the COVID pandemic and need my internet. The following day I followed up and had to send emails etc, to express the urgency, and only then did someone make an appointment to come and fix the problem. Vox then also indicated while booking the appointment that there may be a call out fee if the fault is not a Vox issue, I asked what does that mean, they indicated for example if the fault is not with the router or there has been damage to the router etc, I then indicate this is not the case and the technician i spoke to indicated the router is the issue. I also asked how much the call out fee is, they could not give me any indication of the amount, usually these calls are recorded, so can be played back to confirm what I said. The technician came out, he first replace the power supply of the router with the new router's power supply, that fixed the problem. It only took 5min to swap it out. He then said the call out fee for that is R1198. I then said well, if the the power supply of the router is faulty and I was told that if there is a problem with the router, then there won't be a charge, he said that is not the case. I also did not get the new router, only the new router's power supply. So my problem is that I was told any issue with the router and I won't be charged a call out fee, this was not the case, further more the power supply is worth R112 and surely swapping it out in 5min, you cannot justify wanting to charge me a call out fee of R1198, which by the way is the hourly call out fee. I expect to be charged no call out fee, or a reduce more reasonable fee , if not, i will take this to the consumer commission, since this feels like **************** to me.
