Vox cancellation fee

I've cancelled my contract with Vox after being a loyal customer for more than 2 years because our house was been sold. The sale of the house fell through and i contacted Vox to stop the cancellation. After numerous calls and emails i was told it can't be stopped and i must sign up for a new contract. I told the person calling me that our house is in the market and the fibre line will soon be cancelled. I was told it won't be a problem and won't cost me anything. MiddIe November i tried to put the account on my ex-wife's name with her consent but it wasn't done although she was contacted. I was forced to accept a new router although the old router and internet was working fine after been reconnected. Old router was collected by courier company. I've cancelled my contract yesterday and WOW , i must pay R1750 and return the router. Is this the way of making fast cash??
