Too Little Too Late

I agreed to port my Telkom landline to Vox Telecom Voip on the understanding that it the Vox line will work like a landline. The agent assured me that it works just like a land line. I asked about charges to callers who call in to the Vox line. He said he does not know about other packages and it would depend on their contract. He did NOT at any stage say calls to the Vox line would be treated as if it was a call to a cellphone. Had I been made aware that this service attracts cellphone charges to one who calls the Vox line, I would never have ported my landline number to Vox. My children overseas have a contract that allows them free calls to a landline. I was away in December and did not get sms notification of charges on their account. I did receive sms in January that my credit card would be debited with about R2500-00 for calls made to South Africa. I called Vox, spoke to an agent and two managers. None of them were prepared to take responsibility for the misinformation given by their agent. I told the manager that I am cancelling my contract with Vox and asked why she did not offer some compensation seeing that their agent was responsible for giving me misleading information. She came back to me with an offer of one month credit on condition I remain with Vox. Too little too late. I have been charged with one month notice and because I am cancelling in the first year of the contract, I have to pay for the installation costs too. I questioned that as the contract in my opinion is faulty due to the misinformation provided by the Vox agent. Their attitude was high handed and arrogant to the point of blaming me for agreeing to the contract. I did agree based on the MISINFORMATION provided by their agent. This attitude continued in a reply to a lawyer's letter that was sent on my behalf.
