Dispute Regarding Contract Termination

Dispute Regarding Contract Termination Account No. ***

Please note that I’m not happy with the calls I’m currently receiving regarding this matter. I must dispute Vox’s interpretation of my contract termination notice.

As per my original email dated 1 October 2023, I provided written notice of termination of my Vox fiber services. According to Vox’s own Terms and Conditions (clause 3.3.1), termination of a fixed-term agreement requires “at least 20 (Twenty) Business Days written notice”.

By issuing my notice on the 1st working day of October, I have met and exceeded the 20-business-day requirement before 1 November 2023. Therefore, my termination date is correctly effective as of 1 November 2023, not 30 November 2023.

Furthermore:

I have been a customer with Vox for over three years and have already fulfilled the minimum contract obligations.

I have no arrears on my account.

I am not liable to pay for services I will not be using in November, particularly since the CPA provides that consumers may cancel with 20 business days’ notice and pay only a reasonable cancellation fee if applicable.

Your insistence that I must pay for November in full, despite my compliance with the contract’s notice terms, amounts to an unfair contractual practice.

Accordingly, I request:

Written confirmation that my service is terminated effective 1 November 2023, as per my notice. And I don’t owe Vox anything or termination fee.

If Vox refuses to amend its position, I will have no choice but to escalate this dispute formally to:

The Consumer Goods and Services Ombud (CGSO),

ICASA (Independent Communications Authority of South Africa), and

The National Consumer Commission (NCC),

for investigation under the Consumer Protection Act.

I trust Vox will act fairly and in compliance with both its contractual terms and the CPA. Please confirm in writing within 5 working days.

Kind regards, Thabo ****o

Dear Vox I wish to formally place on record my dissatisfaction regarding the manner in which my termination request has been handled by a Vox representative. During a recent call today (02 Oct 2025), I was subjected to an unprofessional and argumentative tone while being referred to conditions that are not directly applicable to my complaint or request for termination of my contract. I would like to further request not to be contacted via telecom but rather via email. For the avoidance of doubt, and in accordance with Vox’s own Terms and Conditions (Clause 3.3.1), termination of a fixed-term agreement requires “at least twenty (20) business days written notice.” I have comp**** with this requirement, and therefore the attempt to impose additional or unrelated conditions is both unreasonable and inconsistent with the contractual provisions. This conduct not only contravenes your own contractual terms but also raises concerns under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 (CPA), particularly with regard to fair treatment, transparent communication, and the right of consumers to cancel agreements on proper notice. Accordingly, I hereby: 1. Demand written confirmation that my termination notice is accepted in line with Clause 3.3.1 of your Terms and Conditions. 2. Request a formal written response addressing the conduct of the staff member concerned. 3. Place on record that, should this matter remain unresolved, I will escalate the complaint to the National Consumer Commission under the CPA for further investigation and enforcement. I expect your written response within five (5) business days of this notice.
Regards
Thabo
