Buyer Beware - Sim only deals have a catch - Terrible service rubs some extra salt in the wounds
I recently purchased the LTE-A sim only deal on a month to month basis since it was good value for money after Vox had the double data deal. A little more than a month later I switch on my router to find that it is unable to get a signal from the network. For the sake of making a long story short (several phone calls which was made at my expense, promises of returning my calls without follow-up, and constantly being told that the issue has been escalated), I finally manage to get a hold of an operator who then goes on to explain that their upstream suppliers only allow the use of a specific set of routers to be used with the sim only deals.
This little detail was not mentioned to me once, and can not be found in any documentation which was provided to me. The blame was then shifted towards the supplier and I was told to either move to fibre or purchase the applicable router (which can cost up to R2500 FYI). Ironically, the router I was using was working just fine for a month and a half. "We know this is going to make a lot of people unhappy but we can't do anything about it" was the response I got.
Meanwhile the debit order went off just fine, seems like the accounts department is running smoothly. At this point in time I did not use any of the data , I decided to cancel the service and was informed that I would not be refunded for this month.
Essentially, the sim-only deals seem to serve no purpose if you have to purchase their specific routers.
I feel bad for the call centre employees as they were friendly with me all the time, however management seemed ******** in their approach and shifting the blame onto the supplier is just a sad excuse for terrible service.
I'm sure that there are people who have had good experiences with Vox, I unfortunately was not one of them. I constantly had to follow-up on my own ticket and eventually it came down to the fact that now I had to spend another R2000+ to be able to get access to the service which I have already paid for, all while Vox refuses to take responsibility for this, and refuses to pay me back.
What a disappointment and utter waste of time, energy and money.
