Avoid VOX. There are far better, more competent providers out there.

I don’t usually write reviews, but I strongly believe that good companies deserve support so they can grow, improve, and uplift the standard of service in our society. On the flip side, companies that consistently deliver poor service should be held accountable. As customers, we pay hard-earned money and deserve the service promised. This is why I feel compelled to share my experience with VOX Telecom.

In over a decade of working in the tech and hosting industry, I can honestly say that VOX Telecom has been the worst service provider I have ever dealt with.

I run a small but growing web development and hosting business. Wanting to streamline operations, I decided to consolidate services under one provider. VOX seemed ideal—offering a range of IT services under one roof. I expected integrated communication and efficiency. Instead, what followed was a disaster.

I provided VOX with a detailed spreadsheet containing my clients’ FICA documents to facilitate migration. After six months, absolutely nothing had been done. I had to collect and resend all documentation again. It took almost a full year to partially onboard my clients, and even then, several domains were mismatched—business names linked to the wrong profiles. I submitted corrections, but the errors were never fixed.

VOX billed me for services that were never rendered—amounting to over R3,400—and to this day, the amount has not been refunded. Their billing process is completely one-sided: if I’m am late with payment due to changing accounts, services are suspended, but when they owe money or make mistakes, they hide behind red tape and silence.

Technical issues took days or even weeks to resolve. I once received a follow-up call two weeks after logging a problem—asking if it had been resolved (it hadn’t). Basic tasks like provisioning servers are slow and impractical. What takes me 5 minutes with Xneelo took hours or days with VOX.

Cancelling a simple service took emails to six different people. That level of inefficiency is staggering.

I cancelled my VOIP service in March and was told it would terminate at the end of April. VOX still billed me for May, and when my new provider tried to port the number on 1 June, VOX refused—claiming the account was in arrears due to their own billing error. My business number was disconnected for three weeks, and clients could not reach me.

After multiple attempts and 5 weeks of back-and-forth, they finally released the number—only after being pushed repeatedly. Not once did I receive an apology or acknowledgment of how severely this impacted my business.

VOX has demonstrated a lack of accountability, poor communication, inefficient internal systems, and zero customer empathy. Not once did they reach out to apologise or attempt to rectify the damage done. It’s clear that customer retention and satisfaction are not their priorities.

It’s ironic that it took me two days to set up internet and services with Afrihost—seamless and efficient. VOX, despite being an IT company, couldn’t deliver even basic functionality.

As someone running a growing IT business with international clients, I would have gladly brought more business their way—if they had just delivered on the basics.

I have many more examples and welcome anyone who wants to discuss this further. Everything I’ve stated is based on personal experience, and I have the documentation to prove it.

Avoid VOX. There are far better, more competent providers out there.
