Nice curtains but...

Spent a few thousand Rands on curtains for new place. Dealt with Volpes at Canal Walk. The floor sale staff were good - friendly helpful and knowledgeable. However, while the curtains are nice, quality control seems to be a problem. I had to return one curtain which was damaged; another one was a couple cm longer than its matching pair; a third had the wrong size curtain in the box (compared to what was written on the package). This last instance resulted in my going 3 times to the store to finally get it sorted. That's parking fees, time wasted etc. Needed to go back as it was for a double throw window and I already had the first one of the pair. When I complained about this to management at canal walk, their attitude was basically one of disinterest. A 10% discount (we're talking about R30) would have at least made an impression with respect to customer service, but they really didnt care about my satisfaction. In summary, I would say - nice curtains for the price, but if you are doing DIY, you need to factor in a lot of ******ation, hassle and time wasting to manage the returns for off-spec items. And don't count on management to show a genuine interest and make things right. If I had to do my DIY curtain project again (I bought 7 curtains and 3 sheers in total plus odds and ends), I would not use Volpes but probably go Mr Price, Woolworths etc., mostly because of the time wasted and frustration. A pity because they are doing some things right (good price, nice curtains when they are on spec, good floor staff). But too painful for DIY.
