False advertising

We visited Volpes Kyalami Corner to purchase bedding and specifically asked a sales consultant about the “50% off the second set” promotion. We were advised that the second duvet cover set would be 50% off, so we selected two sets, along with pillowcases and fitted sheets, based on this information.

After getting home, I checked the invoice and realised the discount had instead been app**** to the two cheapest qualifying items. We returned to the store to query this and were given conflicting explanations: first, that duvet cover sets were not included in the promotion, and then that the promotion applies to the cheapest qualifying items rather than the second set purchased.

The issue is not simply a misunderstanding of the promotion. We specifically asked about it before purchasing and made our buying decision based on the information provided by the sales consultant. Had the promotion been explained correctly, we would have made a different purchase.

As a result, we paid more than R800 extra compared with what we reasonably understood we would pay.

I am extremely disappointed that, when we returned to raise the issue, the incorrect information provided by the sales consultant was not acknowledged or addressed. If there are exclusions or specific conditions to the promotion, these should be clearly explained to customers before they make their purchase.

A very poor customer experience.
