VW Bad service
on the 24 April 2018 I parked my car on an open parking bay not under shaded parking as hey were full. About 4 hours later I come back and start driving back home, as I was driving I felt it was hot and I switched AC , tilted the roof slightly and next thing I hear a loud exploding sound, I thought it was a tyre burst but I kept the steering straight to avoid accident but there was nothing wrong, as I try to pull over to the side to check my tyres I notices a piece of glass falling on my arm, I looked up and the whole sunroof had just shattered.
I thought *** because I was not anywhere near the bridge where I can suspect a stone thrown an there was no car in front of me / truck that might have chipped a stone to me. I was about 10 min away to my place so I decided to carry on driving and park the car then I would call the dealer. IAs I drive more glasses started falling so I pulled the sunshade to collect the pieces falling.
I got home at about 17H00 and I tried to call the dealer to report this sudden explosion of the glass but it was after working hours. next day I go to the dealer to report this, the first thing the advisor says to me "What happened?" I explain the whole thing to him then he says "No ways, there must be a stone that hit you" his flippen guy is trying to say I am lying, he then says I must claim from my insurance, I refused as this was not an accident, the service manager comes and checks then ask if I have warranty I say yes. he tells the service advisor to log a claim to VW but the flippen advisor says they will not cover this because it looks like a stone hit it.
I tell him hey mate I did my research last night and found that this is not the first time a sunroof was reported o have exploded. I show him a lawsuit that was filed for the same thing. he says 3 days he will let me know what the report says from VWSA, I phone after 3 days but no results, a week goes still no results then I start phoning around because I have no car and they not giving me a courtesy car, I send emails also but no one helps. I decide to follow up with VWSA myself to speed the proves, I was told the dealer has to assess the car and send report but on the other side the dealer says they waiting for factory.
such a painful experience I decide to call the director office and speak o the lady of Mr. Thomas the VWSA director and I did not get help. I was referred to the dealer which I am not happy with, the dealer finally gives me a ****ed up report stating they assume some external object might have caused the glass to shatter.
I ask them to provide a proof or evidence of where that external object caused the glass to shatter but there was no evidence.
note that I have complained to VW about the noise coming from the roof that is rattling, they booked my car for the first time before but the noise came back, so it was not fixed, the advisor said I must book the car for that problem on the next service because I am using the car on the daily basis and I do not have time to forfeit another day without a car.
Now this happens and on the internet there are many cars that experienced the problem. VWSA refuses to fix my car that I have bought with my money, half a million rand car has issues with the sunroof exploding. if I had known better I would have not bought a VW car after their level of service.
they know about this problem but do not want to act on it.
I warn all you VW drivers or people looking to buy a VW to consider your options very well because once you drive it out of their showroom they are happy but you are on your own after if problems occur. they look for any reason not to cover you even hen your car is still under warranty.
be aware that you will at some point hear a big loud bang like a gunshot in your car while driving in that nice panoramic sunroof car and they will tell you it is not their problem.
with all the reports I have made to VW about the noise coming from the roof, they never attended to it, maybe that was warning but not it is too late and they throwing everything at me.
Poor pathetic service and very unprofessional. VW do not look after their customers. I have bought so many cars from this automaker but this level of service is bad, it is worse on the expensive vehicles when you have to claim under your warranty, I drove a golf 6 Gti and each time there was a factory related claim they would look for reason not to pay. now I drive a Golf 7 R and they doing the same.
I am very disgusted by the service and response I get from VW, I swear this is the last time I drive a VW car.
it is shocking that VW would not acknowledge the fault on the sunroof and replace it under warranty as there was nothing that hit the glass, there were no scratches nor cracks on it.
