Volkswagen - SHOCK-ing all around
I retired in 2008 and decided to buy a new VW Polo Comfortline in 2006, as a last car. After 7 years of driving, and un-explained shock trouble (causing tyre wear), VW advised that there was nothing they could do. After numerous, costly repairs, we decided to get rid of the car.
After shopping around for a new car, we decided to give VW one more chance and bought a VW Polo 1.6 TDI. Because we were aware of the shock issues with the first car, we got the TDI tested while in warranty in Port Elizabeth. Since Volkswagen does not have the machines to test the shocks, we went to SupeQuick. The shocks failed the test, but was not replaced by VW, as they said they do not trust the machines used by SupaQuick.
We then went to CapeTown for another test at TyreMart (again Volkswagen did not have the machine), and the shocks failed the test again. All the documentation as sent to Volkswagen Uitenhage, proving the issue with the shocks.
We received a letter from Volkswagen SA, stating that they will NOT replace the shocks on my vehicle, as per the report received from the Service Manager at Rola VW Vredenburg (where we do the annual service).
We will be looking for a new car again ... not VW
