Poor value and quality

I took my Polo TSI that is 1 year old for it's 1st service today. When I bought the vehicle every one told me that I am buying a German car and I can't get a better quality vehicle. I was informed today that they need to replace the wiper blades. After 1 year the wiper blades must be replace???? I drove a Nissan for over 10 years and only had to replace the blades once????? So is this the start of a VERY EXPENSIVE journey?????
