No Compensation for My New VW Polo Arriving 7 Weeks Late
I ordered a new VW Polo Comfortline DSG on 4 June 2018 from Hatfield VW Bryanston after being informed by this dealership that there was a 3 weeks backlog in production and that it would take up to 6 weeks for assembly of the vehicle - I understood this to mean that it would take up to 9 weeks from the day I place the order until the day I receive my car. The dealership informed me that there were some issues with the NADCON system due to upgrades and my order was seemingly only placed on 12 June. Just before placing the order for the new Polo, I sold my old car since I received a very good deal on it. I had made arrangements with family members for transport while I waited for my new car to arrive.
After requesting feedback from the dealership during July on the progress of my order I was informed on 11 July that my order was secured for production only during the 3rd week of September 2018! That is approximately 16 weeks after I placed the order - 7 weeks later than the maximum duration I was told it would take! I then contacted the dealership to voice my dissatisfaction and request some form of compensation (preferably courtesy transport) for the additional 7 weeks that I have to wait without a car. The dealership informed me that they could offer me a courtesy vehicle for no longer than 5 days and if this was not satisfactory to me, they would understand if I cancelled my order…
I then laid a complaint with VW SA and was soon contacted by a complaints administrator who informed me that my complaint was being investigated. Two weeks later she phoned me to give me the final feedback on my complaint: she told me that there was no way to speed up the production of my vehicle, that the dealership could not provide me with a courtesy vehicle for more than 5 days and that VW SA did not guarantee mobility upon the order of a new vehicle (i.e. VW SA was not willing to provide a courtesy vehicle to compensate for the additional 7 weeks waiting period). She also said that the 3 weeks backlog that the dealership (Hatfield VW Bryanston) informed me of before I ordered the car was only an estimate provided to them by the factory, to which I rep**** that a 7 week overrun on this supposed estimate is ridiculous an is not an acceptable deviation from their estimate (based on the original estimate of a 3 weeks backlog, 7 weeks is 233% longer). She then said that she was not in a position to comment on what an acceptable deviation from their estimate is. After voicing that I was not at all satisfied with the answer that I had been given, I was told that nothing more could be done and the conversation was ended.
I could not believe that this was the service I received from VW SA: never mind that it is ridiculous that I have to wait 7 weeks longer to receive my car than the 9 weeks maximum I was told it would take (of which 3 weeks was considered the backlog estimate and 6 weeks is the maximum time it supposedly takes for assembly of the vehicle), it is also ridiculous that neither the dealership nor VW SA is willing to provide some or other form of compensation to make up for the 7 weeks overrun on their estimate of a 3 weeks backlog (a 233% overrun)!
