My VW CC packed up 5,000km out of its motor plan and VW is not prepared to do anything about it.

I have a 2011 VW CC TSi with 105,000km on the clock. It began misfiring a couple of weeks ago and I took it to Lindsay Saker Fourways.

Apparently the chain tensioner collapsed which resulted in two of the valves being bent. The vehicle has had all its services on time since new.

When contacted by the dealer and myself VW refused to contribute anything towards the approximately R40,000 I have been quoted to fix it.

The car is only 5,000km out of its motor plan.

Apparently VW is aware of this issue with models up to 2011 but don't seem keen on rectifying the problem or warning owners about it directly. They have, however, provided people with assistance in fixing the issue in both the UK and the US.

When called with their response, I asked to speak to the head of customer service. They refused and wouldn't even give me their contact details. Same with the CEO.

I had intended to replace this car with another CC but clearly that won't happen now.

This link is to a VW discussion forum where the issue is covered extensively. There are many more sites detailing the problem:

http://volkswagenownersclub.com/vw/showthread.php/72474-DEFECTIVE-timing-chain-tensioner-in-2.0-TSI-engines
