Misleading sales for their batteries

I'm very disappointed with VW Soweto for my last battery purchase. Warranty for batteries not explained my battery is not even 3 months old was told if I fit it myself Warranty becomes void...but why sell over the counter and not explain the condition.. never in my car history heard this statement before.
