Misinformed and *********** service

I own a Volkswagen Polo 1.6 comfortline, I took my car in for a service in February 2016 for its 45 000km service. Upon `collecting the car I was informed that the back brake pads were not replaced as they still had some mileage on them. I was told that as soon as the brake pad warning light came on I can bring my car in for the brake pads to be replaced. I took my car in for a service on the 03 April 2016 to only find that the back brake pads are metal on metal and I am liable for the damaged parts to be replaced. On informing them that during this time I have not seen the brake pad light come on, their repsonse was that the car does not come with a brake pad light. It has been a costly experience due to the misinformation that was passed on to me last year, *********** staff. If only I was informed that the car does not have a brake pad warning light would this experience not have occurred. It has put me off of buying a VW again.
