Low level service on a faulty vehicle under warranty

Name : Gert Wolmarans
Id : ********** 012084
Job title : Educator
Vehicle : Polo TSI
Milage : 11 000 km
Registration : FM 08 HK GP

I have been a supporter of VW vehicles from the very first time I bought my own vehicle in my name (Polo 2012 model).I drove that vehicle for five years before trading it in for an upgrade (Polo TSI 2016 model) around October 2016. My installments per month escalated with R800.00, but I thought it would be worth it seeing that it is a new model and a new vehicle. I was aware that I will have to cut on other expenses to be able to make the payments. I was also fully aware that my insurance will also increase but I was fine with that knowing I have luckily never had the need to claim from insurance for being involved in an accident or any kind of altercations.

Before I launch this complaint I have to commemorate the dealership involved on their level of service before purchasing the vehicle, but sadly this level of service decreased after the vehicle was purchased.

Unfortunately by 21st January 2017 my current vehicle's air con and heating system started failing. It started by not working and vapor/condensed air/mist coming from air vents. I took the vehicle in for repairs on this defect in mid February after which the dealership informed me that the air con gas container was filled up only half way and that they refilled the gas on my vehicle, but a week after this first service of a new vehicle still under warranty the problem persisted.

I was driving with the vehicle in heavy rain with the air con and fan not working where I desperately needed it to remove the fog from the inside of my windows seeing as I could not open the windows due to the rain, and I had to drive 20km/h to be on the safe side, but I feel my life was put in danger due to a defect on my new vehicle and not my own negligence.

In order to take my new vehicle in for a service the first time for the faulty air con I had to make use of the dealership's shuttle service. After I repeatedly explained to them that I need to be at work at the latest 7h20am for our teacher's meeting as school starts promptly at 7h45am, I then asked our principle to be excused from the meeting and that I will be at work by latest 7h45am but due to the dealership only opening at 7am and the time it took to check my vehicle in I was late for work that day.

When the same shuttle service picked me up from work that afternoon the vehicle we were driving in was full with 6 people including the driver and the driver and the passengers were unfortunately harassed by a taxi driver who got out of his vehicle and closed the door every time the person we were suppose to pick up tried to get into the car outside Menlyn Shopping Centre.

I now returned the vehicle a second time on the 27th of February after which I was given a courtesy car on Tuesday 28th February. On Friday 3rd March I was informed that my vehicle was ready for pick up. They have according to the service advisor cleaned out the pipes leading to the air vents and re-gassed the air con again and assured me that everything is finally in order.

I am in the unfortunate position that I cannot trust that nothing else will go wrong with this vehicle in the future before or after the warranty expired, and that the service I received from the dealership does not match the amount I pay monthly.

I have requested that the dealership consider replacing my faulty vehicle still under warranty with a new vehicle after the current vehicle has been in for a service before the scheduled 15 000 kilometers service for a total of five days already.

I also kindly requested that my installments do not increase and yet I experienced no progress up to date due to the bank not approving a new purchase of a new vehicle.

I want to make it clear that I do not wish to trade in my current vehicle for a new one, i only request the dealership to replace my existing vehicle with a new one without having to do yet another credit check on my account.

I also didn't experience any effort from their side in order to keep me as a consumer and client happy and worry free.

I truly hope that VW South Africa can undo the bad experience I had to go through the past month.

Furthermore I contacted the ombudsman and made a study of consumer protection act section 55 and 56 and thereafter realized that I urgently request an answer to this very dire situation.

Sincerely yours.
Mr G Wolmarans.
