faulty gearbox

i noticed a noise on my 2012 polo vivo,and when i took it for service they checked and was told it's the gearbox bearings. i have heard a few people compleing about the gearbox for the polo vivo's .why a 2012 car will have a problem like that .is there some fault on the polo vivo's?
