Clutch burnt out in less than a year!!!!!!

I bought a brand new Vw Polo 1.2 TSI manual in 2014 December. A week ago in the middle of the road it dropped speed and could not engage to any gears. I called VW assist to be towed to the nearest VW dealership which was greenstone.<br> 2 days later the technician working on my car tells me the clutch is burned and to repair will be R10 500. I told him the car is still under warranty and its sitting on 17 000kms, so how can the clutch burn so fast. I had a Polo vivo before and sold it at 89 000kms and the clutch was never an issue. My husband had an 2008 polo and sold it at 110 000kms and the clutch was never changed. The manager suggested we perhaps trade the car in for a Polo DSG, it's as if they are saying if I want to avoid this in future that's my best bet and I must also avoid traffic. How can one truly avoid traffic ??? When the car stopped there was no traffic. If we don't trade in are we to expect this to happen in future?? I have been a fan and a VW owner for years and have never experience such problems especially with a brand new car. I believe this should be paid for by VW under warranty.
