Car Service at VW service workshop

Hi, Sir/Madam

On the Friday the 6th 2017 my car was booked in for a service at VW Strijdom Park(a 210 000 km service). At about three was picked up at my work place, i was already advised by the service adviser(JC) that my car is ready or is about to be ready(Time round about three 15:00 PM).

On my way there was informed again via the telephone call that there has been an issue with my car specifically with the engine sump that the thread accidentally fallen in to the sump.

At my arrival at VW was taken to the car accompanied by the service advice(JC). We met the Service Supervisor and he then reiterated the above story differently saying the thread was warned out and because the car is 200 000 KM its old. I have to pay for the cost of the sump and replacement of And he asked were this car is been serviced. I told him its been serviced on their workshop.

Then i asked for the service delivery manager(Andre Grobler) to be called. In less that a minute or two he made the same decision that i have to pay for the sump as they could have know that the sump threats are warned out. Process towards make this decisions he was showed a video via a phone in to the sump and him and the Supervisor start talking together in Afrikaans in front of me about my car and me and then he just looked and me say you have to pay for the SUMP.

And i then asked for a report and this was he send an hour later see below.

Dear Mr Kgatlhanye, Please see the attached repair quotation for the Sump replacement on your Amarok as discussed. The requested report, The sump plug on the vehicles has a recess thread insert that is attached to the engine sump by electromechanical heat process (welding). It is possible for this process to reverse and/or weaken over time by way of heat and vibration during use of the motor vehicle. Please see the picture’s below illustrating the current condition, 1. Sump Plug.

The sump plug removed from the vehicle does not show any signs of any damages, confirming that the loosening and tightening processes of the plug was completed to the required specification. The only way for a sump plug to have affected the noted failure on the tread insert on your sump would have been if it was cross-threaded upon installation which would clearly have been noted. 2. Engine Sump.

The engine sump was inspected before removal. No external influence and / or damage was noted. 3. We are in process of removing the sump unit, once removed we would be able to clearly show you the adrift part of the sump. And a quotation also see attached for me to pay ...

And Monday morning a follow up email of the report came in with the quotation also attached that i mus pay for the SUMP.

Dear Mr Kgatlhanye, I trust that you had a good weekend. Please see the further pictures below of the sump removed. With the sump removed it can be clearly noted that the recess thread insert that is attached to the engine sump by electromechanical heat process (welding) has in fact cracked loose from the sump casing. The repair solution to this would be for the sump to be replaced as rewilding this thread inset will only be a temporary solution as it will result in weakening of the pump which will result on sump plugs stripping and engine oil leaks. The replacement quotation attached, should we order the part now your vehicle will be ready for collection by tomorrow @ 12h00. Regards, André Grobler Service Manager ********** ********** And all i did is i just took a car for a service thats all, my car was driving when i took at there and now i don't even had the opportunity to take my car else where as it was not driving anymore.

I do not think this is fair for me to pay for something that i rely on the expert to advice assist.

I believe i could have been warned first if there was an issue with the SUMP and so i can grand permission before it was touched.

By the way i was informed by the Technicians while i was on the workshop that same day my car was the second incident of that nature on an Amarok Bakkie.
