Car goes in for service but comes out damaged, how does that work?

I took my car in for 75000KM service yesterday morning (08/02), picked it up in the afternoon but before I could even get home (Centurion) I was experiencing problems. It was flashing all kinds of faults, these include "fault in automatic gearbox" and "Fault in catalytic converter" Funny thing is when my car went in there were no issues, nor were there signs of potential issues. I called the very same day to alert them of my problem, I was told it's not a "service issue" but i'm welcome to bring my car in for diagnosis the following day. It's the following day now and my car wouldn't start all morning and when it finally did start, I cannot put it in the reverse gear. I called VW to let them know what's happening and request that they either send someone to diagnose it or tow the vehicle, I'm told that will be on my cost. How does that work? You mess my car up, I get stuck at home and miss a day of work because I'm now running around trying to find assistance and the best you can do is give me a lame story about this crisis not being service issue and if I need answers I'll have to make a plan to get the car to VW... SERIOUSLY? Is that how things are done these day?
