Beware the design flaw with your 2010 Amarok

<p>For those considering buying or whoever has purchased a 2010 Amarok beware this design flaw. If the fan belt snaps IT WILL get entangled in your timing gear causing catastrophic engine failure. This happened to me while travelling through Botswana subsequently consting me 20k to get back home! </p> <p> </p> <p>To add to the troubles VW are not prepared to come to the party to assist EVEN THOUGH they know about the problem -> case and point during a Voetspore episode where this exact thing happened. As a result all new models of Amaroks come with a new design to protect against such problems. I contaced VW to raise the issue and after lengthy discussion they just decided to close the complaint... with no warning. They informed me at MY expense I must take my vehicle to the nearest VW dealership to be assessed -> bearing in mind it is sitting at my mechanic who is RMI approved with the head taken off. Therefore it would be a significant cost to me. Furthermore when I phoned Alpine VW in pinetown they where unwilling to help even thought they are 2.1km from the mechanic, in fact the afternoon that I called them the dealer principle and service manager took a drive out to inspect the vehicle... Interesting that they weren't willing before and still WILL NOT send a mechanic to have a look -> isn't that interesting?</p> <p> </p> <p>To make matters worse VW SA do not recognize RMI mechanics so in there words my vehicle does not have a FSH even though I have taken my vehicle for a service at RMI mechanics every 15000km. I had the cambelt and fan belt changed at Barons VW in Durban when my vehicle had done ********** km, the fan belt didn't even last 40000km... Furthermore VW charge people to place special covers on their vehicles to prevent against this fault... RIDICULOUS, where is the accountability??</p>
