Barons Volkswagen Tableview pathetic service

On Tuesday the 31 August 2021 my vehicle was booked in for a service and battery replacement at Barons Tableview. I asked the service advisor to give the vehicle a full check including why the windscreen washer does not work. On taking delivery of the vehicle I was assured that everything was in order and they did not get the window washer to work. However later in the week I discovered that my wipers did not work. I have never had a problem with the wipers as it was working perfectly prior to booking the vehicle in. The service advisor requested I return the vehicle so that they can check on something, but I was only able to bring the vehicle in the following day on Saturday morning. On Saturday I was told that the problem lies underneath and I would need to book the vehicle in on Monday to have it fixed. I took the vehicle in on Monday morning and the afternoon was told that the wiper motor needed to be replaced at a cost over R4000. The matter was escalated to the service manager who in no uncertain terms told that VW is not liable for the cost and I should cover it. The amount was out of my budget and I advised them not to proceed.

Since the wipers are a necessity for driving in the rain I resorted to sourcing a second hand motor at a lower cost. At a second hand VW parts place they tried three different motors and none of it worked. It was established that there was nothing wrong with the wiper motor and the original motor was put back in the vehicle. According to the technician there was no evidence that the wiper motor and the ***lings that cover the wiper mechanism was ever removed or inspected. This makes me wonder how Barons VW Tableview concluded that the motor was broken. The parts place advised that I take the vehicle to an auto electrical place. I took the vehicle to Bosch Service Centre where within 5 minutes they found that the wiper fuse was faulty and they replaced it at no charge. Since then my wipers are working and have not given any problems.

I find it highly disingenuous of Barons VW Tableview to have quoted me for a wiper motor replacement at a cost over R4000 for which there was nothing wrong. In addition, the inconvenience of having to book my vehicle in on two occasions to have the wiper problem assessed. As discussed above the experience was very unpleasant, especially the service manager lack of customer service, not trusting me as a client and in the end providing me with the incorrect diagnoses. My intention of taking the time to draft this complaint is not to sort any financial gain but to ensure that the next woman is not fooled the way I was. I would like to know from VW what recourse or consequence management will be app**** to ensure that the next female does not get the wool pulled over her eyes.

Prior to me lodging this complaint I had Volkswagen complaints department calling me 3 times and was advised that VW Tableview is a private dealership and cannot take responsibility for there doing. I don’t understand how private is an excuse they a VW dealership and accountable to VW to uphold a certain quality guarantee and standard of workmanship. Most of the dealerships are barons VW, so then what is barons doing about the complaint if they not VW. None of the VW staff has been honest with their interaction, and feel like they are only delaying the process.
