Amarok Timing Belt

I took my Amarok for a service At Barons Volkswagen in Postmasburg in MAY 2018. Due to the fact that i heard rumours of timing belt malfunctions on the Amarok. I asked the service advisor to replace the timing belt. He advised me against it. Low and behold 18 November 2018 the timing belt broke and I have engine damage. Am I paying for it?
