6 months without my new car

Received my new fleet vehicle (Automatic Jetta) and noticed that sometimes there would be a grinding noise when the car changed from 2nd to 3rd. I took it to VW who said that they would sort it out at its first service. At its first service they asked me if there were any other problems - I mentioned the inside car light didn't turn on when the doors opened and there was a rattle when the car was at around 3000rpm. They had my car for almost 6 months! The first 3 were just for the light. The grinding noise, which is the reason I took the car in, was deemed to be a "comfort issue and does not affect the vehicle\gearbox operation" and would not be repaired. On Saturday I was stranded on the side of a busy road in a screeching grinding car that was unable to get past 2nd gear. The vehicle has been at VW for 4 days now and they have yet to determine the problem. The staff at VW are great, helpful, trying. Seems like VW H/O and technical are tying their hands!
