Why was my insurance canclled

I had a cellphone contract with Vodacom, under which I was also afforded (and paid for) insurance for the device; a Huawei P9 lite, about 2 years ago. I settled (after a few tussles, which included reporting Vodacom to the Consumer Commission) the handset portion of the contract. After I turned down their offer to upgrade my cellphone, I was sent an sms, cancelling my insurance, unceremoniously, without an eota of an explanation. Please explain!!
